Job Description

SUMMARY

Position requires the ability to interact with residents/patients, families and staff in a professional manner. The Dietitian will nutritionally assess residents/patients and document in the medical record. The dietitian will perform daily meal rounds and serve as a representative on the units for the Support Services Dept.

ESSENTIALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Consults with Physician and other health care personnel to determine nutritional needs and diet restrictions. Formulates menus for therapeutic diets based on medical and physical condition of patients and integrates patient's menus with basic institutional menus.

Inspects meals served for conformance to prescribed diets and for standards of palatability and appearance.

1. Able to describe all therapeutic diets in South Oaks diet manuals.

2. Able to complete nutritional assessments and care plans for the nutritional needs in normal and disease specific situations including but not limited to diabetic and cardiac diets.

  1. Is able to create appropriate care plans incorporating the nutritional and individual needs for the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.

  2. Can demonstrate ability to assess the needs of patients on tube feedings.

  3. Demonstrates the ability to effectively evaluate and educate patients/ residents and their families (when necessary) on the self-management skills for therapeutic diets (i.e.-diabetic, cardiac ,etc) nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection and preparation.

  4. Demonstrates to ability to plan and present educational programs.

  5. Can demonstrate working knowledge of computer systems utilized within the dietary department.

Entering & compiling Meal Selections, Printing Patient Menus

Printing Patient Meal tickets, Run tallies, and Change Analysis

  1. Participates in data collection for use in the departments Quality Improvement Program. (ie. Tray assessments, Resident/Patient Satisfaction Surveys)

  2. Demonstrates the ability to accurately check patient/resident trays on the tray line.

  3. Able to follow through with corrective action for issues involving Support Services Department.

  4. Is at work as schedule requires .

12. Exercises flexibility and cooperation in working with and covering for co-workers when needed.

  1. Maintains good communication with dietitians, production manager and supervisors.

EDUCATIONand/or EXPERIENCE

BA or BS degree, RD eligible or RD status preferred. Good oral and written communication skills. Clinical experience preferred. Basis computer skills preferred.
