This position is the first step in the Transportation Technician Engineering (TTE) horizontal career path series, Transportation Technician Senior.

ITD is currently recruiting for a Transportation Technician Senior in District 3, located in Boise, Idaho. This position will ultimately be responsible for performing all tasks from design to construction. This is a challenging career opportunity that will focus on efficiency, quality, delivery, budgets and customer service. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and a constructive team member. Responsibility for your personal safety and to promote a safe environment is a priority.

In order to complete each step the following performance metrics will be measured:

Employees in the Transportation Technician Engineering (TTE) horizontal career path must complete all three steps within 6 years, however, they may be completed sooner. After successful completion of each step, wages may increase as outlined below:

  • Starting wage: $19.81

  • Completion of Step One: $22.01

  • Completion of Step Two: $24.65

  • Completion of Step Three: $27.83


  • Uses highway plans and specifications, maps and aerial photographs for highway maintenance or engineering activities;

  • Conducts construction inspection, materials testing, traffic services, bridge inspection, survey and design using drafting software;

  • coordinates project activities with utility companies, property owners, contractors, consulting engineers, municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and other regulatory agencies;

  • Computes, checks, and verifies quantities, materials, costs, and final contractor payments;

  • May direct others in one or more phases of a highway construction or maintenance project and may include evaluating work and providing input into performance appraisals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license;

  • Good knowledge of computer systems and applications used in engineering/construction and maintenance.


  • Using highway engineering plans, specifications, maps, charts and/or GIS data;

  • Providing direction and training on highway maintenance or construction inspection to others;

  • Identifying and organizing appropriate materials and equipment for maintenance or construction projects.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or two years experience in a construction or design-related field.
