This role will work with the Director of Investment Strategy to support investment and risk management procedures for the US Digital Advice business. The US Digital Advice business seeks to provide holistic financial advice solutions backed by a powerful user experience and partnerships with internal and external investment managers and portfolio management. This is a newly established position with primary responsibilities of performing analysis of current and future advice algorithms, building or maintaining existing quantitative models, and providing support in the development and execution of algorithm oversight. The ideal candidate should exhibit superior technical and quantitative analytical skills coupled with an understanding of the investment management industry and an ability to present results to key business stakeholders in an organized manner.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Independently build and manage quantitative models in order for the business to evaluate and monitor the primary algorithms in practice or in development across multiple digital advice platforms.

  • Maintain proper documentation for model’s business use and model analytics; Develop and maintain a model inventory and provide ongoing model performance assessment

  • Perform validations of third-party models, including the development of benchmark models, for assessment of model accuracy and consistency against written objectives.

  • Partner with Investment Committee and business leaders to support and build new models related to advice delivery and/or portfolio management.

  • Assist the Investment Committee and investment team(s) in developing appropriate Monte Carlo simulations and risk analysis models on asset allocation portfolios.

  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with various internal groups, including Manulife Asset Management and Manulife’s Model Risk Management teams, as well as related Risk and Compliance teams to enhance existing due diligence procedures.

  • Participate in ad-hoc projects related to the digital advice business.


Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Finance, Economics, Mathematics or related fields; Advanced degree is a positive

  • At least three, but preferably at least five years of relevant financial modeling experience in investment management or finance industry

  • Strong preference for CFA Charterholder or an active candidate in the CFA Program

  • A working understanding of the investment management or advisory business with an ability to articulate investment concepts

Required Skills/Attributes:

  • Organized, analytical approach to problem solving requiring self-reliance and attention to detail

  • Strong technical skills with proficiency in MatLab, R, VBA, C , Python; Experience in financial systems such as FactSet, Bloomberg would be a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, start-up environment
