Microchip Technology Etch Process Engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado



As a Process Engineer with Microchip Corporation, you will be focused on yield maximization and cost reduction through the development and enhancement of coating processes including solution delivery. The Process Engineer provides engineering support for specific manufacturing processes. This may include existing processes, as well as the development of new processes. Major quality related job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Improving product quality by reducing process variability

  • Improving the cost of quality by reducing product waste, improving the utilization of capital equipment, and optimizing productivity

  • Working with Product & Yield Engineers, Production, and Equipment Maintenance, anticipating evolutionary changes in customer/product requirements, and providing for corresponding changes in process capability.

  • Supports equipment improvements and related specifications, including project justification documentation for cost and quality impact.

  • Developing and documenting process operation standards, including identification and deployment of SPC opportunities.

  • Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication and processing areas at submicron dimensions.

  • Familiarity with Applied Material, TEL and LAM Etch Tools.

  • Knowledge and expertise of plasma etch chemistries and processes.

  • Understanding of etch output requirements and deliverables for other processing areas, product performance and impact on reliability.

  • Ability to troubleshoot problem product lots by review and understanding of the process flows and process interactions.

  • Ability to use statistical and/or appropriate software tools (Excel, JMP, SPACE, etc.) for data analysis related to process deviations and equipment performance.

  • Ability to learn and develop expertise in new software applications specific to Microchip manufacturing, automation, and control systems.

  • Must be able to work in a clean room environment.

  • Expertise in engineering fundamentals to support core job functions.

  • Understanding of general processing techniques/concepts for semiconductor manufacturing.

  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic environment and deliver results.

  • Track record of self-motivated learning.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver improvements within a team environment.

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.




10 years work related experience in process engineering with Etch process highly desired.


  • BS degree required - (MS or higher preferred) in EE, ME, ChE, Materials Science, Physics or Chemistry.

  • Skills necessary and/or history of writing technical papers for advanced technical journals such as IEEE, ECS, JAP and others

  • Overall knowledge of engineering to sustain, troubleshoot, modify, improve and develop integrated circuit manufacturing processes. This knowledge covers a variety of topics such as mathematics, chemistry, mechanics, materials, electrical, physics, probability and statistics.


  • Read, interpret, and analyze scientific and technical journals and technical procedures

  • Write correspondence, speeches and articles for publication

  • Effectively present information to management, public groups and employees MATHEMATICAL AND SCIENTIFIC SKILLS

  • Work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistics, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, calculus, matrices, solid state, and device physics

  • Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and analysis to practical situations

  • Apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and principles of algebra

  • Apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Ability to communicate effectively internally and externally with all levels of an organization and lead problem solving/quality improvement activities
