Entry Level New Hire- Decatur Corn Plant, Decatur IL

This is an hourly position.

Job Description:

This position is an entry into the Decatur Corn Plant and comes with the expectation of becoming qualified as a Utility employee and demonstrated ability to become an Operator. As an Entry Level New Hire, the applicant is expected to gain knowledge of the facility and general departmental knowledge. The applicant is expected to perform a variety of jobs, duties or tasks such as, but not limited to, product loadout, physical tasks such as hosing, sweeping and cleanup and any other assigned duties. The operation of a bobcat and fork truck may be required to complete some tasks. The applicant will monitor tasks through completion and look for ways to improve process and personal performance.

Job Duties:

  • Load, unload railcars and trucks

  • Accurately complete loading and product shipment paperwork

  • Material handling with mobile equipment

  • Sweeping and clean up

  • Hosing

  • General facility housekeeping

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or its equivalent

  • Commitment to ADM’s goal of achieving a zero injury culture; understanding and following company safety procedures is a must

  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within an industrial environment is preferred

  • Ability to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and make decisions using good judgment

  • Ability to perform duties unsupervised

  • Must have regular, prompt attendance

  • Must be willing to work on a rotating shift that includes weekends, holidays and overtime as needed

  • Exhibit a professional image at all times; maintain a positive and respectful attitude

  • Basic computer skills are a plus

  • The scope of the position may require exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed

  • Inside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees

  • Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing

  • Outside areas:

  • Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity; may be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind

  • Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below; may be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind

  • Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift

  • Work area is, typically, a non-air-conditioned production environment; employees are required to follow all safety procedures, including wearing of PPE, hard-hats, safety glasses, earplugs, and steel-toed boots

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis, up to 55 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 55 pounds overhead

  • Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare; employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds

  • During the regular work shift the employee may be required to talk or hear

  • Ability to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day

  • Ability to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day; may require periods of prolonged sitting or standing

  • Ability to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights; may require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights or in confined spaces

  • Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights
