International Paper Blanker Operator - Night Shift in KENTON CUP PLANT, Ohio

Pay Rate: $17.11 – $18.74/hr. + $0.40/hr. shift differential

Schedule: Night Shift (7:00 P.M.– 7:00 A.M.; either C or D Shift)

JOB SUMMARY:

Produce blanks by following the blanker schedule and splicing the paper as needed. Remove and load same print blanks onto cart to be picked up by Warehouse. Ensure quality through visual inspection of the blank and making machine adjustments as needed. In addition, perform and complete other work as assigned by supervisor. All employees must follow all International Paper safety procedures and policies.

Description of Tasks:

Prep paper roll: Check blanker schedule. Communicate with materials handler to notify them of what rolls are needed. Use roll pusher to roll paper to the roll stand. Use the roll stand to load the paper onto the blanker.

Splice paper: Monitor rolls level. When tail of paper runs off the core, shut down the machine and removes the core. Feed the beginning of the next roll and splice it to the tail end of previous roll. Run the machine slowly. Throw away the first few bad blanks. Adjust EMP control as needed to correct the vertical registration. Adjust side registration knobs as needed.

Remove blanked paper: Take handfuls of blanks from the rails. Check the quality of the print and the blanks front and back. Make adjustments as needed to correct speed, registration, scrap system blockages, and roller clearance. Notify Maintenance or a group leader for repairs.

Load blanks: Load handfuls of the same print blanks onto the blank cart. When cart is full, tape one blank to the outside of the cart. Fill out a Production Information Form including the print name, print number, and the number of blanks in the cart. Push cart into staging bay for Warehouse to pick up the cart. Line up empty carts and fill as needed.

Housekeeping: Keep area clean. Sweep the floor and wipe down the machine.

WORK DEVICE: Blanker, paper rolls, roll stands, blanker cart, tape, misc. hand tools.

Occasionally: Stooping, climbing (when rethreading), ladders (staircase ladder), kneeling, use of tools (hand tools), working under time pressure and working rapidly for long periods of time.

Frequently: Lifting (blank stacks approx. 25 lbs.; cores approx. 15lbs.), carrying (blank stacks approx. 25 lbs.; cores approx. 15lbs.), reaching (at all levels), pushing and pulling blank carts of approx. 1200 lbs. on wheels, use of keyboard (keypads on equipment.)

Continuously: Standing (flat stable concrete, cushioned floor mat at machine), walking (dept. wide)

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

  • 1-2 years of machine operator experience highly desirable

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work in a high paced and multi-task environment

  • Maintains positive team environment

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and very detail oriented

  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

TRAINING PROVIDED:

On-the-job training provided by a designated trainer.

SUPERVISOR REQUIREMENTS:

Supervision received from Group Leader and Shift Supervisor.

TIME OF OPERATION:

12 hour shifts, working alternately (36) and (48) hour weeks with four (18) minute breaks and one (20) minute lunch.
