The Temp. Transition Youth Coach serves youth referred by the 30th Judicial Circuit Court - Family Division. This position is responsible for the planning and implementation of vocational training, transition education groups, Cognitive Behavioral concept teaching, group activities, and participation with an inter-agency team to provide comprehensive academic, vocational, and life skills training. The Transition Youth Coach is responsible for working with and supervising court involved youth in an academic setting. The Transition

Youth Coach is responsible for de-escalating situations and encouraging youth to make pro-social decisions. This position would be Monday through Friday 8:30am-3:30pm from August 21st, 2017- December 22nd, 2017.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 1. Develop and supervise the implementation of the individualized court youth program plans for participants 2. Write detailed observation notes, interim reports, and complete program database logs 3. Plan regular socialization activities, vocational job-shadows, guest speakers, and other transitional related activities 4. Supervise students within program and during transportation 6. Maintain complete records, program evaluations and follow-up systems in accordance with CARF and Peckham, Inc. standards 7. Develop personal portfolios with students 8. Prepare and perform orientation with new students 9. Supervise program activities and outings 10. Crisis intervention as needed 11. Maintain safe and clean work environment 12. Assist in the training of people with disabilities as needed 13. Promote Peckham’s vision values, and services to all customers and stakeholders 14. Miscellaneous duties as assigned

COMMENTS This position requires passing and maintaining security background checks. Must have access to reliable transportation. Must maintain an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and possess a clear driving record (in accordance with company insurance policy) to drive the company vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work or another related field, and two years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) required. Experience with Cognitive Behavioral interventions preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS L.P.C. Licensed Professional Counselor, State of Michigan preferred.
