Position Description:

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for all payroll functions such as data entry, processing and auditing location payrolls, reporting, withholding, extensions, deductions and monthly and quarterly filings for the ATEP BU. This position reports to the Finance HQ function, and is located at the Arconic Titanium & Engineered Products plant in Niles, OH.

Job Duties / Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Accounting, Management and Human Resources to ensure timely and correct payroll

  • Responsible for all payroll related general ledger accounts on a monthly basis or as required

  • Work as part of a team to monitor, develop or procure, implement and support HR processes and systems by utilizing technically sound methods of requirements and process definition, systems analysis and design, planning, scheduling and testing

  • Establish and maintain a high level of customer interaction and focus in order to identify improvement opportunities and recommend solutions to solve business issues.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the processes and systems in assigned areas of responsibility

  • Understand and stay informed of labor agreement changes that may impact payroll

  • Produce accurate and timely payroll, including internal/external financial reporting, journal vouchers and month end reports

  • Coordinate the maintenance of payroll records, payroll distribution

  • Submit verification of employment requests, court orders and/or unemployment claims to appropriate parties

  • Reroute mailings to appropriate parties (tax notices, invoices, tax levies, garnishments, etc.)

  • Prepare and distribute requested payroll reports regarding employee records

  • Monthly closing assistance for accounting for all companies

  • Run Weekly and Monthly reports as requested by location

  • Investigate and process Payroll issues and/or adjustments efficiently and completely to resolution per policy and Federal/State laws

  • Kronos Time and Attendance System – subject matter expert and administrative upkeep and reporting responsibility. Responsible for query, application and interface configuration and maintenance, schedule building and configuration, documentation of configuration and Point of Contact for Kronos relationship and vendor management

  • Maintain/manage Kronos database roles and security. Provide troubleshooting/technical support for all Kronos end-users

  • Monitor database performance; proactively recommend and develop custom monitoring hyperfind queries and audit user actions

  • Create and maintain application upgrade test plans, fully documenting all application testing efforts

  • Responsible for end-user training and maintenance of training documentation

  • Maintain daily records within Kronos system users as well as regular updates or mass updates

  • Work independently to research and provide educated solution recommendations for a given problem/requirement.

  • Assist Corporate payroll tax with ATEP employee tax matters

  • Main point of contact for internal audit and testing support for payroll

  • Assist with other G/L schedules in order to complete monthly Business Unit requirements

Minimum Years of Experience:


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Kronos Time and Attendence System

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with database administration

  • Certified Payroll Professional certification from American Payroll Association preferred

  • Experience with Union and multi-site employees strongly preferred

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal laws and regulations related to the payroll process

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated capability working with Microsoft Office suite of products; extremely proficient in Excel formulas, look-ups and pivot tables

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree from an accredited institution

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive payroll experience

  • Experience with a Time and Attendance Application

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
