The Veterans Service Administrator is responsible to counsel military veterans and their dependents or survivors and assist and advise claimants in their pursuit of benefits from the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and other agencies. The position will be responsible to study and explain State and Federal veterans legislation, consult with medical care providers, prepare veterans benefit claims, and consult with other government agencies to ensure that their clientele are receiving the maximum level of assistance and benefits to which they are entitled.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

*Interview veterans and their dependents and review the veterans' military, social and medical history to gather accurate information pertinent to the claim.

*Assist claimants in the preparation of necessary forms for benefits such as compensation, pension, insurance, education, and hospitalization.

*Correspond and consult with other Veteran Service Officers and appropriate entities relative to background information which may materially affect the applicants' benefit entitlements.

*Consult with medical care providers concerning specific benefits to which veterans or their dependents may be entitled and assist the individual in obtaining these benefits.

*Advise claimants regarding other benefits to which they may be entitled, including social security, vocational rehabilitation and other forms of public assistance.

*Maintain liaison with, and delivers speeches to, veterans' organizations and other interested groups to ensure public awareness of available benefits and assistance.

*Performs other related work to ensure expedient delivery of benefits.

*Perform other duties as required.


Education and Experience:

*Successful completion of a High School Diploma.

*Must be a veteran as defined by the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

*Working knowledge of the benefits and services available to veterans and their dependents, and of State and Federal laws and regulations.

*Knowledge of the principles and methods of interviewing.

*Knowledge of available community resources and agencies, both public and private.

*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with veterans and their dependents, community organizations, and the general public.

*Ability to explain Federal and State veterans' legislation.

*Ability to operate standard office equipment such as a calculator, computer, typewriter etc. for use in the preparation of forms, reports and necessary correspondence.

*Ability to express ideas clearly, in written or oral form.

*Ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written directions.

*Ability to understand an act in accordance with department rules, polices and standard operating procedures and demonstrate skill in applying these toward specific situations.

*Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

*Developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.

Conditions of Employment:
