DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is located within the Engineering Service at the Phoenix VA Medical Center. Measures, cuts, constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items such as scaffolding, staging parts, panels, bins pallets, concrete forms, dry walls, and roof decking. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies wood, composite, and wood substitute materials by performing work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs, and modifies building components such as walls, windows, frames, trim work, and furniture/cabinets.
Independently plans and completes projects in involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, trusses and beams. Spacing, accuracy and fit are essential and structural soundness or appearance are important. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc. Performs work to close tolerances, exact fit, and structural soundness.
Operates and uses a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools.
Operates and uses a variety of tools by setting-up, adjusting, and maintaining tools to meet required specifications.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 2:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. May include weekends, holidays and rotational shifts or shift work.

The position requires performance of work which involves physical effort, such as that involved in continually standing, bending, stooping and reaching; frequently lifting; frequently lifting and carrying items sometimes heavy . Also performs work which involves moderate to heavy physical effort, such as required to move heavy equipment and furniture, and lifting, carrying and/or moving items.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Usually works indoors in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilations. Will be exposed to skin irritations. Continually exposed to dust, dirt, and is frequently exposed to material which may be require special handling.
Your background must demonstrate experience in the ability to perform the duties of an Carpenter without more than normal supervision.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume or OF-612. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the questions. The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to perform the duties of a Carpenter without more than normal supervision.
