As an Information Technology Specialist (Data Management) the incumbent will perform the following duties.

  • Responsible for Database Management System (DBMS) software and database server administration for public, private, and development environments,
  • Assist primary database administrator (DBA) to carry out day to day DBMS operations and maintenance, to include coordination, installation, and security management.
  • Monitor that backups and SQL related jobs are run, monitors performance, capacity, availability and serviceability.
  • Troubleshoot and analyzes system failures.
  • Develop and maintains security procedures to guard against unauthorized intrusion and unauthorized updates.
  • Monitor overall operations of servers.
  • Prepare documentation in accordance with Department of Defense, agency, major command, and local standards.
  • Design the physical structure of required databases.
  • Determine physical storage requirements based on the volume of data and their relationships, size of records, anticipated growth, access methods, and data compression techniques

To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as; Experience using computer hardware and software to analyze data used in preparation of test reports. Preparing systems for the acquisition, storage and retrieval of data. Applying information security, policies, principles, and practices in the distribution of data management services. And 1. Attention to Detail - Performs work necessary to plan, design, develop, document, test and implement databases to ensures adequate internal control systems are developed and operative . 2. Customer Service- Address customer service requirements during the systems development process 3. Oral Communication- Present technical methods and procedures to Information Technology personnel 4. Problem Solving- Troubleshoots any database-related problems ranging from effects of outside systems such as host intrusion systems, or hardware, or memory problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-09. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of Database Server Administration
  • Skill in using Systems Analysis and Design Techniques
  • Ability to Modify Programs for Manipulation of Data

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-09 grade (or equivalent).

NOTE: To support the Advancement requirement you MUST submit a copy of your latest non-award SF-50/NPA that reflects your highest grade held on a permanent basis along with your application/resume package. Failure to do so may affect your rating or consideration for employment.
