The Registered Nurse is defined as a professional who provides and supervises care to individuals and families while maintaining a safe and confidential environment.


  • Assess patients’ physical, psychosocial, and cultural needs considering diagnosis, age, care setting, desire for care and response to care plan.

  • Plan care, collaborating with other members of the healthcare team.

  • Deliver competent care as required by patient, plan of care, and care setting.

  • Evaluate patients’ responses to care.

  • Provide interactive patient and family education.

  • Communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.

  • Document according to policy/procedure, standards, and guidelines.

  • Participate in improving organizational performance.


Physically able to stand, stoop and lift. Able to walk and stand at least 50% of the shift. Good manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.

Demonstrates ability to position, move and transfer patients utilizing patient mobilization equipment and/or appropriate resources.



  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Card on hire.

  • Completion of P.A.L.S. (for nurses working Pediatrics) at Woodland Healthcare within 6 months or hire.

  • Completion of N.R.P. (all nurses whose home unit is Maternal/Child) with in 6 months of hire

  • Completion of A.C.L.S (all nurses whose home unit is Maternal/Child) with in 6 months of hire

  • Completion of AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring course every two years (Intermediate AWHONN fetal monitoring acceptable at hire, but must complete the Advanced AWHONN course within one year of new assignment to Labor and Delivery) or maintain the NCC EFM certification.

  • S.T.A.B.L.E. course for all Labor and NICU nurses within 1 year of hire.

  • Must maintain annual required competencies in the department.


Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Must maintain all required certifications with renewals prior to expiration date (last day of the month that the certification expires).

Minimum required experience: One year Labor and Delivery experience required in an acute care setting.

Ability to: Read, speak and write English.

Work as a team member to meet team goals and objectives.

Maintain a high degree of accuracy and precision.
