GM Financial Global Monitoring Technology Engineer III in Arlington, Texas

The Global Monitoring Technology Engineer III, under the general direction from the Manager or senior Engineers, will assist in the day-to-day tasks critical to the team's success. This individual will be responsible for attending project meetings when necessary and assist in gathering and documenting infrastructure and security requirements. Timely completing company training, Engineers will become familiar with all compliance, regulatory and security requirements, adhering to all corporate policies and standards. This person needs to be experienced in technology with good planning and coordination skills. An energetic, solution minded personality with drive, attention to details and excellent communication skills will be needed for success in this position. Responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining, enterprise monitoring technology platforms. This team member cooperates with various IT departments to produce and document monitoring schema for network infrastructure, server hardware, OS, applications, and business processes. This team member implements and maintains monitoring technology in a 24x7 enterprise production environment.


  • Serves as Global Monitoring Technology Engineer for the multi-disciplinary project team they are assigned

  • Collaborates with external and internal customers to analyze information needs and functional requirements and deliver the artifacts as needed

  • Must have high attention to detail, be well organized and be a self-starter

  • Must be able to work with limited direct supervision

  • Uses a broad and deep understanding of technical concepts in multiple specialized fields to develop solutions to problems and critical design issues

  • Escalates complex or consequential issues to management

  • Identifies and directs changes through appropriate review and approval mechanisms

  • In creation phase of new systems, meet with application developers, systems engineers, system administrators, and DBAs to collect monitoring requirements

  • From a broad selection of monitoring tools, conceptualize, develop, and implement vendor or custom monitoring solutions to ensure system functions at peak performance

  • Identify, analyze, architect, and test enhancements or bug fixes to the current systems management infrastructure to meet changing requirements and increase productivity

  • Analyze processes to establish technical guidelines and standards for systems monitoring

  • Create documentation and formalize procedures pertaining to the operation of the networks, servers, and applications

  • Train and mentor other members of the Global Monitoring Technology organization to support all initiatives

  • Provide on-call service, participates in special projects and performs other duties as needed


  • Ability to correct PC related problems in a timely manner

  • Good knowledge of WAN security and design, including server platforms, VMware, network switches and routers, firewall, proxy and various WAN services

  • Advanced knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, Subnetting, Routing, DHCP, Command line and DNS

  • In-depth knowledge of PC hardware and software

  • Advanced knowledge of VB Script and or PowerShell

  • Advanced support-level knowledge of the Windows desktop Operating Systems

  • Good knowledge of operating systems, applications and associated hardware (eg, Windows Desktop OSs, Windows Server OSs, OS/400, UNIX/Linux)

  • Understanding of network monitoring concepts (eg, TCP/IP, Subnetting, Routing, DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, etc)

  • Must have a broad understanding of enterprise computer hardware/software and corporate information systems

  • Implementation/administration knowledge of popular monitoring suites such as: HP Site Scope, HP NNMi, MS SCOM, SolarWinds Orion (Suite), Splunk, Netflow Monitoring Tools and various Transaction based tools like ExtraHop and HP BPM/APM


  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to evaluate problems and issues quickly, and to make recommendations for courses of action

  • Ability to make independent decisions and use sound judgment in relation to the management of team members

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time while remaining cool under pressure

  • Demonstrate the ability to write new and troubleshoot existing scripts in languages such as Power Shell, UNIX/Linux shell, Perl, and perform standard to complex queries against database resources


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in IT preferred


  • 4-7 years of experience in enterprise server and network engineering/support preferred

  • 4-7 years of experience implementing/administering enterprise monitoring tools preferred
