The Board of Directors of Federated Energy Services Cooperative, Inc. (FESCO) is seeking qualified candidates to replace the President, who will be retiring in January 2019 after 24 years of service. FESCO is a shared services and management cooperative federation formed in January 1998 by its two members: Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative (LMRE) of Wellington, OH and North Central Electric Cooperative (NCE) in Attica, OH. The FESCO President serves as the General Manager of both cooperatives. Under the FESCO President’s direction, the cooperatives share cooperative management staff, accounting, billing, engineering, communications, community and member relations, and marketing departments. Both cooperatives maintain separate offices and separate line crews. Due to the success of the federation, there are no plans to merge the two cooperatives. The Board has selected NRECA’s Executive Search to facilitate the search process.
Lorain-Medina REC, Inc. (www.lmre.org) is a member-owned, electric distribution cooperative serving 16,685 meters over 1,536 miles of line and 15 substations in five counties in north central Ohio. North Central Electric Cooperative, Inc. (www.ncelec.org) is a member-owned, electric distribution cooperative serving 9,657 meters over 1,792 miles of line and 12 substations in eight counties of north central Ohio. LMRE has 35 and NCE has 34 non-union employees with 20 of these cooperatives’ employees shared through FESCO. LMRE has annual revenues in excess of $37 million and NCE has annual revenues in excess of $24 million. Both cooperatives serve a mix of industrial, residential, and business member-consumers. LMRE and NCE receive their wholesale power from Buckeye Power and are members of Ohio Rural Electric Cooperatives, Inc., NRECA, CFC, CoBank, Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and are RUS borrowers. The FESCO President will represent one of the cooperatives on the G & T Board.
The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity and have proven leadership skills. The individual must be a strategic thinker, possess strong business acumen, and preferably have at least five (5) years’ experience at the general management level of an electric utility. Applicants with at least 7 years of senior staff level experience that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and organizational skills will be considered. Rural electric cooperative experience is preferred. A demonstrated understanding and respect of the cooperative principles and business model is essential. The individual will have established strong interpersonal, team building, board and member relations, and negotiation skills. Knowledge in the areas of legislation affecting electric utilities, fiscal management, electric distribution operations, strategic planning, risk management, safety, power supply, key accounts, renewables, and public relations is required. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communications skills. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is required. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
LMRE’s headquarters is located in Wellington, OH (population 4,800) and NCE’s headquarters is located in Attica, OH (population 900). Both villages are situated in northern Ohio between Toledo and Cleveland and south of Lake Erie. The area offers access to the attractions of Ohio’s north coast, including Lake Erie and the Erie Islands, performing arts, professional sports, world class medical facilities, museums, universities, and excellent local schools.
