Amazon Web Services Sr Systems Development Engineer, Performance Engineering in Austin, Texas

Job Description

The AWS Graviton team is looking for Sr Performance Engineers to join us to create the future of data centers. By working inside the core of AWS, you will have the opportunity to lead the design and delivery of technologies that power the world's largest cloud provider.

We work backwards from understanding the customer’s needs and we’re using this to guide our decisions. As a Sr Performance Engineer you will work with AWS teams to understand the business need, deep dive into how the services perform on the new Arm hardware, architect the solution to optimize efficiency and lead the execution. You will be responsible for designing and developing solutions that improve the performance and reduce the cost of our services.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a range of AWS teams like EC2, RDS, Redshift, and Lambda to understand their workloads and performance on our systems

  • Lead the work to measure and improve performance of our new systems

  • Modify applications, kernel and/or hypervisor to address the identified bottlenecks

  • Work with the AWS teams on the future hardware designs

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including technical leaders

  • Knowledge of the computer architecture, Linux internals and virtualization, with the ability to quickly prototype solutions

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a relevant technical field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to debug complex problems across multiple layers of software and hardware

  • Experience with Arm assembly and/or using performance counters

  • Experience with creating repeatable experiments, analyzing results and re-implementing the code to address performance bottlenecks

  • Meets/Exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements for this role.
