Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for managing multiple teams with responsibility for safety, quality, cost, effective team utilization, compliance, and employee development. The Manufacturing Manager will establish and maintain skilled manufacturing teams responsible for the manufacture, qualification and availability of high quality products.

What will you do?

  • Promotes and facilitates the safest working environment for all employees

  • Effectively manages manufacturing scientists and other people leaders in the areas of Cell Culture, Fermentation and Protein Purification

  • Ensures proper staffing and training for each manufacturing team to efficiently meet customer demand

  • Initiates investigations into process failures, product failures, and safety incidents

  • Identifies and implements timely and appropriate corrective and preventive actions

  • Drives Practical Process Improvements (PPI) with a high level of team member involvement and engagement

  • Effectively reviews metrics to benchmark and drive team performance

  • Creates team performance goals and leads each team and individual towards achieving those goals. Performs full performance evaluations for all direct reports

  • Works with team members and planning/purchasing teams to develop and execute a manufacturing schedule to meet customer demands

  • Participates in internal and external audits, responds to audit observations and identifies and implements appropriate corrective and preventive actions

  • Works with Research and Development and product realization teams to facilitate the introduction of new products into manufacturing

  • Acts as a liaison with Product Managers/Business Leaders

  • Accountable for ensuring system data integrity for manufacturing data elements (BOM, Routing, ACQ, Lead Times)

  • Creates and manages to an operational budget including compensation, benefits, supplies, equipment and equipment maintenance

  • Supports career development plans for direct reports

  • Effectively communicates barriers or issues and obtains needed support for resolution

How will you get here?

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or other related discipline, 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing or research laboratory, and 2+ years of management experience/direct supervision of staff

-OR-

Master’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or other related discipline, 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or research laboratory, and 2+ years of management experience/direct supervision of staff

  • 3+ years of experience in ISO or cGMP regulated manufacturing environment

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership abilities with capability to leverage diverse resources, respond quickly, understand impact of changes and decisions, facilitate agreement, build collaborative relationships and understand internal and external customer needs

  • Solid ERP system knowledge and an understanding of cost accounting/standard manufacturing financials

  • Experience with Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Systems and Tools (or similar Continuous Improvement and Lean Systems)

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Software

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills

  • Must ensure all team members work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials

  • Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed
