Responsible for instructing Electrician Development Program trainees as well as other Business Unit employees. Delivers stand-up classroom instruction as well as hands-on training in the shop. Develops and updates training materials for classroom delivery as well as shop exercises. The primary focus of all instruction is to advocate safe work practices, encouraging a positive, open safety culture and fostering safety awareness and practices by trainees and craft personnel. Identifies and communicates areas of potential human performance failures that could lead to undesired results and stresses the importance of incorporating Human Performance in all tasks. Supervises trainees in class and evaluates knowledge, behavior and retention of concepts. Coordinates with station supervision and training coordinators to assess progress in the Development program. Teaches specific technical subjects, tests employees and checks task performance evaluation records.
Updates and creates technical training materials to include Instructor guides, Hand Outs, Power Point presentations, Shop Guides and Tests. Serve as subject matter experts and create course materials in conjunction with Training Specialist, typically using the ADDIE method. Creates and delivers pre-job briefs, safety assessments and deficiencies. Serves as subject matter tutor and delivers refresher material to employees. Serves as a member of the Advance Placement team for new hires to assess step placement. Member of Oral Board team to determine passing to the next step.
Teaches safety-related and other classes at the stations/locations. AdHoc courses are delivered using psychomotor training methods (hands-on) in the field. Is knowledgeable of the different equipment at all the power stations and incorporates into training materials. Travels to different locations to take equipment pictures, obtain drawings or information to include in training materials; writes station specific training materials to improve understanding of local equipment. Participates on Operations Excellence Audit teams and Factory Acceptance Testing. Trains electrical employees in the shop testing, dismantling, and reassembling typical station equipment and components (breakers, switchgear, etc.).

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
5 or more years of coal and/or gas turbine operations experience in a power plant environment with a focus on Electrical maintenance specialty.
Advocate of safe work practices at the stations to include Safety Committee member, Human Performance advocate, completes Human Performance Observations
Experience in developing and presenting training or safety topics to other personnel preferred
Working knowledge of power plant equipment and controls, Control room systems, operating and maintenance procedures, and power generations standards in an industrial setting.
Strong communication skills to include – instructor experience, presentation skills, use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Leadership skills in supervising, coaching, training and mentoring employees
Ability to assess readiness in classroom, shop, and station knowledge as applicable to Electrician Development Program completion.
Ability to troubleshoot equipment and consult with stations on specific equipment issues
Capable of writing highly technical training materials and teaching them to trainees on an entry level
Understanding of SAP maintenance processes, work prioritization, job hazard analysis, Human Performance defenses, Environmental regulations, as well as the LOTO and Minor Maintenance LOTO processes
Able to handle most work and aspects of the job using knowledge of the field (skills and/or abilities that provide subject matter experiences and understanding of best practices in maintenance procedures for particular jobs)
Electrical maintenance related job knowledge sufficient to teach courses such as: Arc Flash Requirements, Safety in Electrical Maintenance, Electrical Test Equipment, Print Reading, Circuit Analysis, AC and DC Motors and Controllers, Inductance and Capacitance, Breakers and Switchgear, etc. See Power Generation – Technical Training Center website for more information on Electrician Training
Support Oral Board reviews with trainees
Provide input in setting Technical Training Center objectives and policy, identifying critical issues and introducing new concepts; Identifies and implements better work alternatives and business processes
Makes decisions independently
Provides assistance, advice, and solutions to peers, customers, and co-workers
Previous supervisory experience – preferred
Cross-training in Mechanical maintenance or exposure to mechanical maintenance processes and practices – preferred
A Bachelor Degree and 3 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred education.
Graduate of an Electrician or Maintenance Operator (Electrician) Development Program – strongly preferred
