Job Description RTMC OPERATOR

TMC Operators are responsible for the principal monitoring of the roadways including detecting, confirming, updating and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion and travel-time imbalances in the geographical coverage area with monitoring and/or surveillance capabilities. The operator positions are the highest profile positions in the RTMC as they are the eyes and ears of detection and management of all activities being handled by the RTMC.

The Operator I position is the entry level position for RTMC Operators. Operator I must successfully complete the initial training program under the supervision of, and monitored by, an RTMC Shift Supervisor and the RTMC Manager. They must then continue to perform acceptably as they acquire additional knowledge and skills through “on-the-job” training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to gain a working knowledge of the SunGuide Software and related systems within the allotted time.

Ability, with supervision, to function as an Operator II.

Skills in interpersonal relationships.

Ability to clearly communicate technical information in layman’s terms.

Ability to clearly communicate information over a radio system or network.

Ability and willingness to work alternate work, shift schedules, and be on-call 24 hours/day.

Ability to gain acceptable skill in the use of Windows-based applications within the allotted time.

Ability to write reports clearly and concisely.

Ability to coordinate real-time activities and priorities.

Knowledge of communications and disseminating information via multiple communications devices.

Required Skills Requires a High School diploma and 0-2 years relevant experience.

Functional Area Transportation Management

Department The Transportation & Infrastructure business unit has four main business streams - surface transportation, aviation, fleet maintenance and infrastructure services, with over 1000 personnel providing these services in the federal, state and local markets. Our transportation surface and infrastructure business includes traffic control centers, intelligent system specification, deployment and maintenance, traveler information systems, back office capabilities, program management, congestion management and general operations. Our business with state and local governments include parking management systems and technicality upgrades and parking enforcement. In addition we provide fleet maintenance services to a number of public utilities and municipal authorities.
