Cleveland Clinic Chair-Department-of-General-Anesthesiology in Cleveland, Ohio

Cleveland Clinic, one of the world’s most distinguished academic medical centers, announces a search for the Department Chair of General Anesthesiology within the Anesthesiology Institute.

The Department of General Anesthesiology provides anesthetic care to over 48,000 patients annually in the ambulatory and hospital environments for all types of procedures. The Department of General Anesthesiology is based on our Cleveland Clinic’s Main Campus with over 70 anesthetizing locations, providing comprehensive perioperative anesthesia services for general surgery, neurological and vascular, ENT, colorectal, bariatric, urological, orthopedic, obstetric and gynecological, digestive diseases, hematology/oncology, acute pain management, bronchoscopy, and imaging. The department also provides care at our Special Delivery Unit for complex anticipated births and in conjunction with the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology for Fetal Surgery.

The Department of General Anesthesiology includes 67 staff anesthesiologists in addition to fellows, residents, certified registered nurse anesthetists, and student registered nurse anesthetists. The Department Chair partners closely with teams from Surgical Operations to provide anesthesia care consistently throughout all of our locations. This also allows us to enhance the patient experience and align our subspecialty sections to work more closely with our surgical colleagues to improve patient care and outcomes.

Cleveland Clinic's Anesthesiology Institute (AI) unites all specialists in cardiothoracic anesthesia, critical care, general anesthesia, pain management, pediatric anesthesia, and the regional practice (community hospital) anesthesia, outcomes research, and graduate medical education within one fully integrated model of care to improve the medical management and quality of life for our patients. The mission of the Anesthesiology Institute is to be a recognized leader in perioperative care through education, research, and innovation within an environment that creates a safe, effective, efficient, and best possible experience for our patients and caregivers. We accomplish this vision by collaborating within our department, other institutes within the Cleveland Clinic, and with outside entities. Our internationally recognized medical staff and dedicated support team perform more than 200,000 procedures annually.

The ideal candidate for the Department Chair of General Anesthesiology should be a recognized leader within Anesthesiology as an outstanding clinician, educator, and scholar, who supports research and education within a multi-specialty organization. The Department Chair will have ultimate responsibility for the clinical, educational, research, and fiscal oversight within the department in order to achieve personal and institutional success. The Department Chair must be a demonstrated leader with strength in communication and collaboration both within and outside of the department. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
