Essendant Sr. Transportation Manager in Deerfield, Illinois

Major Responsibilities

  • Manages overall LTL, TL and Intermodal performance inbound and outbound through 4 regional ICC’s.

  • Collaborates with ICC Managers on processes to ensure timely receipt and loading at ICC’s, limited dwell time, and on time delivery at final Essendant DC’s.

  • Collaborates with DC Operations Managers on processes to ensure smooth and timely product flows, enable accurate labor forecasts, and reduce time from dock to stock.

§ Develops service metrics related to first call acceptance rate, transit, and on time delivery. Leads resolution of service issues.

§ Partners functionally and cross functionally on supplier allowance program negotiations, metrics, and ongoing profitability management. Leads supplier negotiations where required.

  • Ensures competitive market rates and service. Partners with Corporate Carrier Relations on procurement projects and leads inbound QBR carrier discussions.

  • Evaluates market rate adjustments and advises data analysis group on changes to cost models

  • Assists in design of systems and technology requirements, successful implementation, and manages ongoing operation related to the carrier network.

  • Presents transportation programs as needed to supplier representatives and internal stakeholders.

  • Develops improvements in redistribution of globally sourced products

  • Meets challenging department savings & budget commitments through superior execution as well as generating innovative cost containment ideas

  • Leads other people, process, budget, performance management, compliance activities, and associate development as required by the job.

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Expert understanding of transportation modes, operations, and pricing.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey issues and opportunities with carriers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

  • Excellent negotiation skills.

  • Strong tactical and multitasking skills combined with a strategic and holistic supply chain view.

  • Strong Excel & PowerPoint skills with the ability to interpret and present data and concepts in a concise manner through dashboards and PowerPoint presentations.

  • Strong understanding of finance and mathematics.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Hyperion, or ability to learn with minimal training.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably Transportation, Operations, Logistics, Supply Chain Management

  • Minimum 8 years experience in Transportation Management
