Optum Behavioral Health , part of the UnitedHealth Group family of companies, is seeking an experienced Senior Policy Analyst to join our dynamic team. The Senior Policy Analyst will be responsible for monitoring changes with internal laws and regulations to ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines. This individual will be responsible to establish, mandate and implement standard policies, procedures and best practices across the company to promote compliance with applicable laws and contractual obligations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct state-specific legal research

  • Monitor, interpret and communicate changes in requirements to mitigate risks and achieve compliance

  • Review and interpret laws and regulations and determine their applicability in a given situation

  • Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders regarding findings and recommendations

  • Help maintain inventory of policies, guidelines and letters and ensure timely review and approval

  • Help prepare reports

  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them

  • Work with Optum Regulatory Change Management and the clinical operations team to develop and/or revise policies and standardized letter templates to meet regulatory and customer requirements

  • Collaborate with customers on clinical policy and letters

  • Serve as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues

  • Assist with internal and external compliance audits

  • Enable compliance with legal, regulatory, accreditation, and business requirements related to Policies, standards and clinical guidelines including ensuring training and auditing are completed and changes implemented as needed

  • Function as a leadership Subject Matter Expert on clinical guidelines and Medicare/Medicaid policies, providing information on clinical best practices to affiliated departments, providers and members

  • Collecting and evaluating data and information related to Federal and State regulations, as well as CMS and State Medicaid requirements and to identify clinical best practices

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in a medical policy and treatment guidelines

  • Experience in developing policy, procedures and guidelines

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

  • Function independently and with little day-to-day work direction

  • Intermediate or better level of proficiency with MS Word and MS Excel (proficient in developing and maintaining templates in MS Word)

  • Dedicated, distraction-free space in home for home office

  • Access to high speed internet (DSL or Cable)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a legal, regulatory or compliance

  • Experience working as a telecommuter (in a remote or virtual office environment)

  • Experience in interpreting clinical regulatory and clinical accreditation requirements

  • Experience in writing clinical policy documents and guideline documents
