The University of Texas Medical Branch Facilities Ops Technician I - Facilities Services in Galveston, Texas
High School diploma or recognized equivalent and basic knowledge in industrial/commercial trade craft(s) (i.e. Plumbing, Mechanical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics/Fire Alarms). Two years of general experience working in at least one of the above mentioned crafts. Must be capable of demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job in a post-offer employment test as administered by UTMB Rehab Services. This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 lbs. floor to knuckle and requires frequent bending, standing and walking.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform at a general/basic level in at least one Industrial/Commercial trade craft (Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Structural, Instrumentation/Electronics, Refrigeration, Electronics /Fire Alarms) for maintenance and repair of specialized equipment/machinery.
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
Specific Job Related Duties
Pro-actively maintains all aspects of assigned area of responsibility and communicates with customer and supervisor of action taken.
Serves as primary point of contact for customers for all Facilities Operations and Management (Physical Plant) services.
Performs detailed inspections of equipment for proper operation. Inform appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.
Performs preventative or corrective maintenance tasks.
Successfully participates in the Facilities Operations and Management (Physical Plant) sponsored in-house craft trade training program (Currently NCCER).
Attends maintenance training courses, area staff and safety meetings.
Performs duties associated with all crafts as developing skills safely allow.
Support area shift coverage, after hours or extended projects as needed.
Participate in disaster/hurricane preparedness list i.e. E1A (Ride out team) or E1B (Recovery team).
In addition to regular shift, provides support/ response to the institution that operates 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Assists in major maintenance repairs.
Complete all UTMB required compliance training.
Start up, shut down and adjust equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
Identifies and reports safety hazards.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION OF POSITION:
Standard hospital, clinical, laboratory and/or office environments. May be exposed to such occupational hazards such as communicable diseases and harmful chemicals. Some exposure to weather and physical hazards. Exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards and may be required to work in high locations or crawlspaces.
- Exposure to areas under construction.
- Usual working conditions found in craft shops and mechanical rooms.
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions or temperature extremes.
- Exposure to electrical/mechanical hazards.
- Proper safety and precaution must be closely observed when operating and repairing
- specialized equipment and systems.
- Climb ladders and stairways and work on building rooftops of high elevation.
- Work in confined spaces such as ceilings, under floor crawlspaces, and manholes.
- May be required to work extended hours or rotating
