This position will work out of GA Forestry Commission’s Harris/Muscogee/Talbot County office located in Waverly Hall, GA.

The Ranger Exam has been scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2019 at City Hall, 9108 GA Hwy 85, Waverly Hall, GA 31831 at 9:00 a.m. For more information call 706-582-3996. You must have a valid Ranger Exam score to be considered.

Please arrive 30 minutes early to secure a seat, as seating is limited. You must obtain a score of 80 or above on the Ranger Exam to be considered for hire. You will have up to 3 hours to complete the test. The Ranger Exam is a general knowledge assessment that tests items such as comprehension, following directions and other basic skills. No preparation or studying is needed for this test.

Ranger/Wildland Firefighter job duties:

  • Must live and/or relocate to within 45 minutes of assigned work location.

  • Under close supervision receives training and instruction in fire control duties using heavy equipment.

  • Assists with maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment.

  • Participates in forestry related services and programs such as reforestation, community and school activities.

  • Controls and extinguishes fires using manual and power equipment.

  • Ensures proper operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment.

  • Inspects and ensures that fire protection and/or fire detection systems are installed in accordance with appropriate laws, codes, ordinances, regulations and standards.

  • Inspects property to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations.

  • Operates fire engines and hoselays.

  • Performs upkeep and maintenance of quarters, buildings, grounds, and hydrants.

  • Prepares reports.

  • Carries out the implementation of fire prevention campaigns.

  • Operates commercial class transport and medium to heavy duty crawler tractor in wild land fire suppression and construction of pre-suppression fire breaks.

  • Responds to fire calls and other requests for assistance, such as accidents and other emergencies.

  • _Participates in a rotating “on call” schedule to respond to requests for assistance after hours and on weekends/holidays._
