Job Summary:

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor is primarily responsible for protecting the food by supervising employees, effectively implementing Food Safety and Quality procedures, and ensuring all regulatory, customer, and Brooklyn Brands requirements are met. The QA Supervisor is responsible for implementing and monitoring Food Safety and Quality Assurance procedures, and ensuring Operations are in compliance with best practices for Food Safety and Quality. The QA Supervisor reports to the Senior Director of Quality and provides leadership directly to their team (exempt and/or non-exempt).

  • Responsible for documentation, control, and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) including procedures, records, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Responsible for complying with the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards (i.e. SQF)
  • Responsible for meeting all applicable food regulations (international, national, state, and local)
  • Works to maintain the safety, legality, and Quality of each food product and the processes used in manufacturing them
  • Responsible for meeting and exceeding customer requirements
  • Works to reduce customer/consumer complaints for foods manufactured on site using root cause analysis, corrective actions, and preventive measures
  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Quality Assurance team, including training and development of team and clear identification of objectives to meet the bakery needs
  • Reports Food Safety and Quality issues, corrective actions, and preventive measures to the Senior QA Director
  • Authorized to hold and release product based on Food Safety or Quality non-conformance
  • Participates in daily food evaluation to identify possible defects and provide direction for improvement
  • Participates in physical bakery inspections on a weekly basis and reports are generated on each area (pest control, operational methods, maintenance for Food Safety, Sanitation, personnel practices, etc.)
  • Trained as backup for QA Director as technical representative for customer and third-party bakery audits
  • Responsible for ensuring materials are received from approved suppliers and conducts raw material supplier performance monitoring
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Supervisory and effective communications skills
  • Bachelor s degree or sufficient experience in the food industry
  • Training in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points)
  • Trained in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard, such as SQF
  • Basic understanding of microbiology
  • 2+ years previous experience with Quality Assurance in a food environment, with some supervisory experience preferred
