The laboratory of Dr. Timothy F. Murphy is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team dedicated to understanding mechanisms and developing new therapies for respiratory tract bacterial infections. The work focuses on infection in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and otitis media and takes a microbial genomics approach leveraging analysis of bacterial strains collected over 20 years (PNAS 115:E3256, 2018). Work involves: Identifying virulence mechanisms through analysis of bacterial genomes Construction of mutants Studies involving in vitro and animal model systems and analysis of regulatory mechanisms, all with an aim to develop new therapies The successful candidate is: Highly motivated Well organized Highly collaborative and has good communication skills Prior experience with bioinformatics and/or microbial genomics is an advantage This is a two-year position with a potential for non-competitive renewal for additional years, contingent upon performance and funding.
