The Pharmacy Operations Specialist, Intermediate provides operational support within pharmacy by demonstrating proficient knowledge of the responsibilities of a designated pharmacy role (i.e. Inventory Control, Chemotherapy, Medication Safety, Automation, and Information Technology etc) Will act as a Mentor to the Pharmacy Ops Specialist, Associate. The Pharmacy Operations Specialist, Intermediate services are provided in compliance with Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
Assist in training other Operations Specialists in determining their ability to function in the Pharmacy department.
Create and evaluate policy, procedure, and training materials regarding operational workflow of designated area
Demonstrate a service orientation in all interpersonal relations. Conveys a positive, professional image at all times.
Develop and maintain a clean, organized, and adequately stocked work environment.
Ensure that all medications in all areas have been safely and securely stored according to Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and State Board of Pharmacy regulations.
Maintain all pertinent documentation as required.
Oversee and instruct other associates in the pharmacy regarding day-to-day activities.
Perform assigned job responsibilities with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Provide and receive information (via telephone, person-to-person, or written) to hospital personnel, patients and visitors. Refer all drug information questions to Staff Pharmacists.
Provide feedback to the needs of the department and other associates in a respectful and effective manner consistent with UPMC values

Take an active role in the training of fellow staff members in ones area of expertise.
Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required or completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program is required.
Three years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Operations Specialist is required
Must have demonstrated competency in all detailed aspects of the Pharmacy Operations Specialists which includes (Inventory Control, Chemotherapy, Medication Safety, Automation, Information Technology...etc)
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Certification in Specialty Area AND/OR Pharmacy Technician Certification
Act 34 Criminal Clearance
