The Engineer ensures that correct input data and accurate results are present in these systems in order that SPP's Reliability Coordination, Market Operations, Tariff Administration and Scheduling Operators may make informed decisions. These functions require accurate and effective engineering decision making, sometimes in stressful situations. Essential Functions: Coordinated OperationsMaintain, update and improve the EMS state-estimator model, market model, flow gate models and other data sources used by the Reliability, Tariff, Market and Scheduling systemsSupport, develop and improve Operations applications such as State Estimator, Alarming, Real Time Contingency Analysis, Real Time AFC Calculator, Oasis Automation, Outage Scheduler, Load Forecast application, JOA processes, Market Flow calculator, Market System, Constraint Manager, Curtailment System and Modeling softwareMaintain SCADA displays of substations modeled in EMSIdentify needed ICCP data to maintain superior real-time monitoring and state-estimator resultsAbide by SPP's modeling and change control proceduresCoordinate model development and data exchange with neighboring systemsCoordinate model development and validations for EMS model consumers (Day Ahead studies, Reliability Unit Commitment, and Congestion Hedging)Develop, test, and implement process and software changes as necessary to support the function of SPP's Consolidated Balancing AuthorityDevelop, test, and implement software changes for Operations based applications (i.e. EMS, DTS, ICCP, MOS, CMM, TCRXFER etc.)Develop, maintain, and document customized software applicationsAssist Operations Support Management with special projectsParticipate and contribute as an SPP representative on NERC, NATF SPP or other industry committees, subcommittees, working groups and task forces CommunicationWork with SPP Members to obtain necessary reliability and market model related changes as they pertain to the operational modelsDocument methods and processes used within the Modeling and Data Integrity teamResearch, document and report issues reported by SPP Staff, SPP Members, non-Members and Market Participants related to results of any of the systems used by the Reliability, Tariff, Market and Scheduling desksDevelop and maintain training videos within the Modeling and Data Integrity teamLeadershipFacilitate any assigned SPP working group meetings as the group's staff SecretaryInterface with SPP members, non-members, consultants and software suppliers Assist in the development of the SPP BudgetAssist with administrative office duties as required Qualifications: Education Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university. Degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field such as: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Systems EngineeringExperience Requirements:Engineer II - Two (2) years of relevant Engineering experience Required:Use administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development and database design and maintenanceStrong inter-personal and team work skillsDemonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skillsUnderstanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and ProceduresExperience with power system engineering, operations engineering, transmission planning, or similarPreferred:Working knowledge of EMS state-estimator and/or power flow s oftwareExperience with EMS or power flow modelingWorking knowledge of NERC Reliability StandardsExperience with Dispatch Training Simulators (DTS)Licensed as a Professional EngineerHold an active NERC System Operator CertificationAdvanced degree in a related field of studyWork Environment:This job operates in a professional office environment.
