Support The General® in the disciplines of data science and analytics to institute an industry leading Center of Excellence focused on actionable business insights. Combine business acumen, analytical problem solving skills and programming knowledge to discover and identify new opportunities through statistical analysis using vast amounts of data. Essential Job Responsibilities
- Statistical Analysis & Model Development
Processes, manipulates, and investigates large and complex datasets
Extends company data with third party data sources when needed and verifies the integrity of data used for analysis.
Collaborates with different departments to build complex predictive models to support overall business objectives and business needs.
Explores data to identify new attributes and determine best approach to address business issues.
Develops tools to monitor and evaluate model performance.
- Model Implementation & Communication
Manages analytics projects or components related to large, complex business initiatives through to completion and implementation.
Clearly and effectively presents completed analyses with new insights and recommendations to the business partners.
Regularly communicates the results and performance of predictive models deployed.
Assists with knowledge transfer and training to business areas regarding new analytics applications as part of implementation process.
Assists with knowledge transfer and training on new modeling tools and methodologies to less experienced staff.
Engages business stakeholders to identify and answer critical questions.
- Continued Innovation
Researches and maintains awareness of best practices and techniques of statistical analysis.
Proactively brings new and innovative ideas and approaches to develop business solutions.
Monitors industry and competitor trends to determine potential impact to predictive models.
Leverages emerging technologies, open source tools, and harnesses new mathematical techniques.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum of 6 years of work experience in the use of advanced analytics to facilitate business decision making.
Advanced proficiency in modeling software (e.g. R, Python, SPSS, SAS).
Advanced understanding of machine learning algorithms and data mining techniques (e.g. GLM, GBM, SVM).
Advanced proficiency in SQL and a programming language (e.g. Python, VB.net, C#).
Advanced communication, presentation, persuasion and time management skills.
Ability to research, use and interpret information which requires refining and improving existing methods of analysis and/or developing new ideas
Excellent problem solving capability.
Demonstrated curiosity and courage to challenge the status quo.
Must be a calculated risk-taker – fail quickly, learn, try again.
Outcome focused – must not get bogged down in analysis and activities.
Proven organization, follow-through and time management skills essential.
Specific knowledge of Property & Casualty Insurance is desirable, but not essential.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is expected.
BS in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, math, engineering, physics, or computer science. MS or PhD preferred.
