Duties: Assume lead analyst coverage of stocks and perform core fundamental research on the Retailing/Broadlines and Hardlines industry and the companies that comprise it. Update and/or develop detailed financial models, including historical and projected results, related to coverage companies. Generate ideas and incorporate research findings and views in compelling, in-depth reports related to both coverage companies and broader industry trends. Quickly respond to actionable news events with efficient publication of shorter-length reports. Conduct research through partnering and collaborating with colleagues, surveying industry experts, performing channel checks and proprietary analyses to gain insight on the Retailing/Broadlines and Hardlines industry. Participate in conference calls and meetings with C-level company executives. Work closely with sales force and traders to communicate industry views, interpret news, and address client queries. This position does not supervise employees.

Minimum education required: Master’s degree or equivalent in Finance or related field.

Minimum experience required: 3 years of Equity Research or Investment Banking experience in the Consumer sector, or related experience.

Skills required: Must have experience building detailed three-statement financial models for public and private companies, including forecasting. Must have experience performing in-depth valuation analyses of public and private companies, using a demonstrated understanding of and proficiency with key techniques, including DCF, sum of the parts, comparable multiple analysis. Must have experience building M&A and LBO analyses, including the construction of detailed merger and divestiture models. Must have experience performing in-depth data analysis using a variety of data sets (including Nielsen, Euromonitor, comScore, as well as various macroeconomic data sets) and multiple variables. Must have experience writing sell-side equity research to make investment recommendations on coverage companies. Must have experience advising investor clients, key internal partners (sales and trading) on investment recommendations and key sector development. Must have experience applying knowledge of advanced accounting concepts to company and industry analysis. Must have experience leveraging network of industry experts including consumer and retail sectors to do survey work and prepare investment recommendations and sector updates for institutional investors. Must have experience using advanced Excel skills, including VBA, to manipulate large data sets, automate processes, and improve the efficiency of financial models.
