Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Dietitian II is responsible for providing optimum nutritional care to patients through assessing nutritional needs; developing, implementing, and re-evaluating nutritional care plans; and counseling and educating patients and families. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Performs nutritional assessments on high-risk patients to determine nutritional status and level of care needed.

1.1 Assesses high-risk patients identifed by nutrition screening within 48 hours of notification of high-risk level.

1.2 Assesses patients on enteral and parenteral nutrition screening within 48 hours of notification of high-risk level.

1.3 Develops and implements nutrition care plans based on established standards of practice and includes the following information:

1) patient's energy/protein needs; percent of those needs being met on current diet;

2) pertinent lab values;

3) nutrition needs in relation to disease state;

4) medications that may cause food/drug interactions;

5) patient's acceptance/tolerance of current mode of feeding;

6) suggested feeding modifications.

1.4 Accurately documents nutritional services provided in EHR.

1.5 Provides periodic evaluation and revision on the nutrition care plan based on the overall effectiveness of the patient's treatment.

Qualifications:

Education: B.S. Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.

Licensure: Licensed by the State of Oklahoma or provisionally licensed until the next available meeting (after application process) of the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

Experience:

Certifications: Registered with Commission on Dietetic Registration (Credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics)

Other:

Preferred Experience: One to two years of hospital clinical nutrition experience.
