The Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) works to meaningfully engage alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations in support of the University of Pittsburgh.

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a regional Major Gifts Officer (MGO) to join a progressive team within the University’s Office of Institutional Advancement.

MGOs are expected to fundraise from prospective donors evaluated with the capacity to donate $100,000 or more as well as build a diverse and sustainable portfolio within their assigned region(s). In order to effectively manage critical relationships with current and prospective donors to meet both short and long-term fundraising objectives for the University, MGOs must consistently initiate contacts with potential major donors, develop and execute strategies to cultivate and maintain relationships, and participate in the gift agreements as necessary. MGOs will be expected to develop the skills to solicit individual gifts and build a sustainable relationship with the University. Must be willing to travel at least 30% of the time.

The primary objective of an MGO is to develop long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donors’ interests, passions, and values. The responsibilities are focused on fundraising from prospective donors evaluated with the capacity to donate $100,000 or more and include: a) securing face-to-face meetings to confirm the giving capacity of the potential donor and to assess their interest in providing financial support to the University b) identifying and completing cultivation tasks c) creating strategies leading to gift agreements d) creating endowment and pledge agreements e) identifying and implementing stewardship strategies f) maintaining accurate records in the ADVANCE database system

Education Required Baccalaureate

Minimum Related Experience Level Required 3-5 years experience

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position

Bachelor’s degree required.

Superior verbal and written skills.

At least 3-5 years in fundraising, evidence of direct contact with donors, comfortable with qualification approach as practiced at the University, and must have experience with stewardship techniques.

Must be able and willing to travel extensively outside of the Western Pennsylvania area.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license is required.

Child Protection Clearances

The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks may be required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance.

Background Check For position finalists, employment with the University will require successful completion of a background check.
