The DMPK Department is looking to further enhance its scientific talent base at our R&D site in Ridgefield, CT. We’re looking for scientists at multiple levels who will propose and implement in vitro and in vivo experiments in support of our development candidates. Additional responsibilities include supporting multiple projects; defining, implementing, and communicating tactics for achieving overall R&D project goals; and carefully evaluating and interpreting data.

Description:

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist to join the Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) department at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT.

As a Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting in vitro studies to evaluate the mechanistic interaction of drugs, metabolites, and reference compounds with drug metabolizing enzymes . You will be expected to evaluate and interpret the data generated, apply the knowledge gained from these studies toward the advancement of compounds in our Development portfolio, and contribute to scientific advancement in the field of drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics . Active and productive collaboration with other DMPK scientists, both internally and externally, is also required. You will be expected to propose and implement new techniques, effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects, and implement strategies to reach predetermined milestones and achieve R&D and corporate goals.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design, conduct, interpret, and report data from in vitro metabolism studies using various cellular and subcellular systems, e.g. microsomes, hepatocytes, and transfected cells.

  • Additional experience integrating transporter studies with drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic concepts would be advantageous, including but not limited to PBPK modeling.

  • Familiarity with routine LC-MS/MS instrumentation, maintenance, and troubleshooting and be capable of solving assay development problems would be helpful.

  • Communicate results of routine analysis and interpretation through oral presentations and written documents to other DMPK colleagues, multidisciplinary project teams, and management.

  • Compliance with applicable regulations and the ability to perform all work in a safe manner and maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies is essential.

  • Independently designs and performs scientific experiments with a predefined goal including developing new methodologies, protocols and or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge; Direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists

  • Contributes to defining R&D team goals and collaborates with scientists within and outside functional area in achieving them; Assumes departmental responsibility for projects OR has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals

  • Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and/ or presentations; Deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals

  • Demonstrates an expertise in a specific project-relevant area OR technology; Provide guidance and expertise to advance specific projects OR evaluate and propose new technologies and concepts in support of multiple projects

  • Develops broad knowledge in field of expertise, including the ability to interpret current literature relevant to R&D projects, and visibility outside of functional area

  • Assumes responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff

  • Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

  • Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel

Senior Scientist Requirements:

  • Ph.D. Degree or equivalent (e.g. Master’s Degree with 10+ years of experience) in Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry

  • Experience with the design and conduct of experiments to evaluate the interaction of molecules with drug metabolizing enzymes is essential.

  • An in depth knowledge of drug metabolizing enzymes and an advanced understanding of pharmacokinetic principles would be considered highly beneficial.

  • An understanding of how physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling (PBPK) can be utilized to translate in vitro data to potential clinical effect would be considered highly beneficial.

  • Experience with studies involving drug transporters would be advantageous.

  • Post-doctoral experience would be advantageous.

  • Experience with the safe and appropriate use of radioactivity for in vitro studies is preferred.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Must be able to work in a team environment, provide training and guidance to laboratory personnel

Principal Scientist Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree with 5+ years of experience in Drug Metabolism, Pharmacokinetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other relevant field, or equivalent.

  • Experience with the design and conduct of experiments to evaluate the interaction of molecules with drug metabolizing enzymes is essential.

  • An in depth knowledge of drug metabolizing enzymes and an advanced understanding of pharmacokinetic principles would be considered highly beneficial.

  • An understanding of how physiologically-based pharmacokinetic modeling (PBPK) can be utilized to translate in vitro data to potential clinical effect would be considered highly beneficial.

  • Experience with studies involving drug transporters would be advantageous.

  • Post-doctoral experience (up to 2 years) would be advantageous.

  • Experience with the safe and appropriate use of radioactivity for in vitro studies is preferred.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills are essential.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred for Principal Scientist level

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
