Job Summary:

  • Provides ultrasound imaging in one area of expertise (Diagnostic/Vascular/Cardiac) and patient care services at defined levels to patients.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Assesses and educates patients according to specific department protocols.

  • Implements safety standards to protect to staff and patients.

  • Maintains mandated continuing education requirements.

  • May be required to train / precept students and new techs.

  • Operates a variety of complex stationary and mobile diagnostic equipment.

  • Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.

  • Prepares for and assists the physician in a variety of imaging and/or invasive procedures.

Qualifications

Minmum Requirments:

Education/ Knowledge, including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration:

  • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in good standing, is preferred or eligible to take the registration examination or a graduate of a Sutter affiliated community college program in diagnostic medical ultrasound.

  • BLS Healthcare Provider.

  • Additional multiple certification by ARDMS defined specialty areas preferred.

  • Basic cross-sectional anatomy, pathophysiology and its effect on normal anatomy of the area of scanning competency (obstetric, cardiology, vascular structures, etc.). Knowledge of how to operate electrical equipment safely is also required.

  • Graduate of a ARDMS accredited educational program in ultrasonography preferred.

Experience:

  • Graduation from a recognized Ultrasound training program and/or proven experience in the acute care hospital setting performing sonographic categories of obstetrics, gynecology, abdominal, cardiac and small parts or noninvasive vascular procedures.

Skills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a rapidly changing and challenging environment and take appropriate actions in emergent situations.
