Safety & Training Coordinator

Reports to: Vice President of Administration


The Safety & Training Coordinator will complete objectives and activities designed to increase Bison’s overall level of safety. This will be accomplished through the continuous improvement and development of Bison’s policies and program, safety training, safety inspections, accident/incident investigations, documentation policy, and job hazard and safety assessments. The Safety & Training Coordinator will strive to help Bison maintain the highest standards of employee safety and compliance with OSHA standards by continuing to evaluate changes in regulations and industry best practices and identifying areas for improvement and working with the VP Administration and management to adopt the necessary changes to Bison’s policies, work practices, and programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist with the development, continuous improvement, and administration of the Bison Health & Safety Policy.

  • Assist with the implementation, evaluation, and the development of the Bison Safety & Health Management System.

  • Coordinate the integration of Behavior Based Safety practices into Bison’s Safety & Health Management System and Policy.

  • Work with VP Admin to plan and develop safety training for all Bison employees that complies with OSHA standards. These duties also include conducting new hire training, recurrent training, and incident/accident based retraining for all Bison employees.

  • Organize weekly safety walks with Safety Committee. Record all discrepancies noted and ensure timely remediation of all discrepancies identified.

  • Conduct job hazard and safety analyses to ensure proper use of engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE for each job function. Assess JHAs annually or as work procedures are changed to ensure proper employee safety.

  • Assist Bison’s quality department and operations department with the development of standard work procedures and training incorporating manufacturer’s limitations, ergonomic best practices, and safety.

  • Responsible to identify improvements to ensure Bison’s compliance with OSHA standards and work with management to implement corrective actions.

  • Coordinate training and proper utilization of the 3E corporate SDS management system.

  • Conduct accident/incident and near miss investigations with department managers. Identify causation of the incident and development corrective actions and recommendations to prevent reoccurrence. Review recommendations with management and implement approved corrective actions.

  • Maintain proper safety records including the OSHA 300, 300A, & 301 forms, accident and incident rate, and workers compensation injury data. File electronic reports with OSHA prior to the deadlines.

  • Interact with managers, supervisors, employees, vendors, and contractors to ensure adherence to Bison’s Safety and Health Policy and Bison’s Safety and Health Management System. Organize meetings and professionally communicate to all areas of the organization to ensure company alignment with our safety program.

  • Attend safety seminars, training, and meetings as required.

  • All other tasks as required by Bison leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience:

  • Must have 3 to 5 years minimum of safety experience in the manufacturing industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or University.

Required Skill(s):

  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word), Adobe DC.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals.

  • Experience in developing safety training curriculum and teaching small to medium size groups of people with diverse backgrounds.

  • Effectively present information and respond to questions and scenarios, from groups of managers, employees, clients, and the general public.

  • Confidentiality and discretion with strong ethical character a must.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of management and staff as well as outside clients, business associates and suppliers.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration –

  • OSHA 30 Hour Card

  • OSHA 10 & 30 Hour Certified Trainer

  • ASP and/or CSP preferred
