The AmazonFresh/Prime Now central product builder team is seeking an experienced and innovative principal technical program manager to build tools that support Retail teams in AmazonFresh and Prime Now. This is a unique opportunity for someone interested in Amazon’s start-up consumables-focused environment. AmazonFresh and Prime Now experiment, fail fast, learn, and scale rapidly.

We are seeking a Principal Technical Program Manager to own the relationship with large central Retail teams, and you will be responsible for scoping and delivering large projects across AmazonFresh/Prime Now. Responsibilities include collection of business and systems requirements from internal and external customers, writing specifications, driving project schedules from design to release, and managing the production launch. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts, coordinating across multiple teams to develop optimal solutions. You will be expected to make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams.

The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, will have demonstrated experience leading large projects, and will have a well-rounded technical background in current technologies. As a TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, destroy limits to scale, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done.

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in technical program management managing complex programs, systems software, distributed systems and/or developing large scale web applications

  • 4+ years of experience leading software development projects with aggressive schedules

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related technical field, or equivalent demonstrated work experience

  • Advanced knowledge of business applications such as Word, Excel and Project

  • Strong business and technical vision

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Solid project planning/execution skills including estimating, scheduling, and executing on committed schedules

  • A deep understanding of software development in a team, and a track record of shipping software on time

  • Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requirements underlying feature requests, recommend alternative technical and business approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related technical field

  • Master’s in Business Administration

  • A working knowledge of current software development methodologies and technologies

  • Familiarity with building large scale solutions across many integrated and distributed systems, with great availability, performance, and security

  • Ability to communicate, orally and in narrative, effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals
