Amazon Web Services Principal Technical Program Manager - AWS Targeting & Personalization in Seattle, Washington
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is building its own world-class personalization platform and we are responsible for defining and delivering a collection of self-service performance marketing products and features. The team is at the beginning of building a single technology stack to support marketing campaign creation, and build a large-scale, algorithmically driven planning and performance-based system. Among other challenges the team owns where, when, and to whom we serve marketing. Our products are strategically important to Amazon Web Services businesses driving long-term growth.
As a Principle Technical Program Manager, you will be responsible for driving and delivering multiple complex projects simultaneously. In this role, you will provide project leadership, anticipate bottlenecks, mitigate project risks, quantify the impact of making tradeoffs, and balance business needs against technical constraints. You will provide technical leadership that gets software applications built and integrated into the AWS ecosystem. You will work closely with stakeholders across various design, software, and business teams to identify and drive innovative solutions that achieve business goals and align with long-term product roadmaps.
Drive the roadmaps for our services in alignment with business strategies and priorities.
Prioritize the intake and manage the backlog of requests.
Act as the technical interface between the business, software development, BI, and data warehouse teams.
Run in front of the software development team, helping define user stories, research appropriate technical solutions, and provide guidance to the team regarding architecture, design, and priorities.
Translate feature requests into technical specifications and influence design and architectural decisions.
Apply project management and Agile methodology skills to manage scope, plan work, coordinate resource deployment on tasks, analyze risks/develop mitigation strategies and proactively identify and resolve issues.
Help make the right feature trade-offs to ship software without compromising customer experience or business relevance.
Engage with many teams across the company, evangelizing the team and your project, building relationships and helping identify existing components and technologies that can be leveraged to deliver on our goals.
Represent the technical team and deliverables to senior leadership across the company
Provide leadership and perspective, and drive stakeholders to decisions in ambiguous situations.
Apply continuous improvement methodologies to analyze and understand existing processes and workflows; proactively advocate for change and implement agreed upon changes to optimize speed of delivery, solution quality and user experience.
Find ways to accomplish more by enabling others and delivering solutions when engineering can’t.
Use an inclusive approach to stakeholder engagements, through teamwork and problem-solving by welcoming diverse points of view, leveraging the talent of others, and searching for and delivering new, holistic solutions.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline (or the equivalent).
10+ years of relevant program management experience.
Strong understanding of software development process with an appreciation for maintaining a high quality bar with low operational overhead.
Proven track record in the delivery of complex cross-functional projects.
Proven ability to influence change at all levels within an organization.
Expert planner with business process definition experience and a strong IT aptitude.
Excellent communicator both verbally and written with an ability to communicate with all levels in the organization (technical, business, executive).
Decision Making/ Complex Problem Solving- system thinker who proactively gathers the right data from appropriate sources to make the right decisions.
Ability to resolve complex issues in creative, efficient, and effective ways.
Understanding of drivers of performance, scale and operational excellence in software and ability to work with software development manager to ensure these aspects in all software used in the program
Graduate degree in computer science or related field (MS or Ph.D.).
Experience with designing and building large-scale AdTech or MarTech systems in a multi-tiered, distributed environment (Service Oriented Architecture).
Full-stack software development experience.
AWS product experience and development on the AWS platform.
Entrepreneurial with an inherent sense of urgency and accountability.
Strategic and thinks at a high level, but also hands-on, execution-oriented, and capable of getting things done quickly.
Data-driven and “quantitative” mentality. Grounded, detail-oriented, always backs up ideas with facts.
Experience optimizing for short-term execution while planning for long term technical capabilities. Ability and willingness to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly.
Ability to be hands on and code POCs.
