A Research Technician position is available in the Subramaniam Lab at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

The Subramaniam Lab is part of the Basic Sciences Division and the Computational Biology Program of the Public Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutch. The focus of research in the lab is to understand regulation of mRNA translation in microbial and cancer cells. Projects in the lab typically combine genomics and biochemical experiments with computational modeling and bioinformatics. The technician will work independently under the direction of Dr. Subramaniam. The technician will initially work closely with the PI, but she/he will be expected to independently lead the project after demonstrating proficiency with all necessary techniques. Over 90% of the technician’s time will be dedicated to conducting cutting-edge research with the remaining time spent on routine laboratory maintenance. This position will be ideal for a recent graduate or soon-to-graduate looking for additional training in molecular biology and computational techniques before entering graduate or medical school.

Intermediate level position requiring 2 years previous experience working in a laboratory. Independent research experience outside of laboratory course work is necessary. Experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR and cloning is essential. Familiarity with computational analysis using R or Python is desirable, but not necessary. The candidate’s statement and reference letters should provide evidence of critical thinking, good organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
