The Director, Thought Leader Liaison (TLL)

General Position Summary/Purpose:

The Director, Thought Leader Liaison (TLL) supports the brand and other Pharmacyclics stakeholders/partners in building relationships and advocacy with thought leaders and key opinion leaders across the country. He/She will be part of the marketing organization and will operate under commercial rules and regulations for promotions. This role will work closely with field and home office based commercial colleagues. The Director will have managerial responsibility for 4 TLL’s reporting directly to them. This is a home-office based position, and requires professionals that have the credibility to interact with Thought Leaders, established management experience, exceptional collaboration skills to interact with multi-functional teams, and exhibit sustainable leadership skills to enable the development of a vision. The primary responsibility for this individual is to lead the Thought Leader engagement strategy and tactics. There are other key responsibilities for the role: 1) Identify Thought Leaders / KOLs and develop appropriate engagement plan, 2) Focus on continuous need assessments to evaluate educational opportunities 3) Lead strategy and execution of speaker training 4) Oversee and execute on congress/convention KOL plans. Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:

  • TL and KOL engagement plan

  • Identify, create and execute on an appropriate KOL/TL engagement plan

  • Provide support to various Thought Leader engagement initiatives, involving proposal generation, opinion leader interactions, and communications

  • Lead, expand and strengthen relationships with selected physician Thought Leaders

  • Assist Marketing in identifying, recommending, and inviting potential advisors and moderators for Advisory Board meetings and for Speaker Bureau

  • Need assessment

  • Evaluate current educational gaps and develop appropriate plans to fill the gap

  • Ensure collaboration with marketing/sales to enable inclusion of strategic insights

  • Work closely with Thought Leaders and the internal team to bring to life relevant Pharmacyclics approved promotional materials and to solicit input to be considered in the development of Pharmacyclics strategies

  • Lead the execution of speaker training

  • Lead the training of contracted speakers on approved Pharmacyclics speaker presentation content; provide further on-label and PRC-approved education and guidance to speakers to ensure accurate and effective presentations of Imbruvica

  • Ensure the training of internal TLLs and empower the understanding of diseases, mechanisms of diseases, and the potential role of Imbruvica in the management of these diseases

  • Oversee and execute on congress/convention KOL plans

  • Recommend conferences for speaker program placements, and work with Marketing to manage conference requirements for programs

  • Develop a TL/KOL plan for each conference to ensure Imbruvica and PCYC is appropriately represented

  • Adherence to PCYC’s Compliance Policies and Procedures and ensuring that the team acts in accordance with our promotional procedures and broader governing laws

  • Attend assigned medical and scientific meetings and symposia to: a) maintain awareness of current issues and new data pertaining to Pharmacyclics products, b) develop and maintain relationships with Thought Leaders, and c) manage Thought Leader interactions with Commercial Management

  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of Pharmacyclics activities. Always follow PCYC Policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree required; MBA a plus

  • 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech marketing and sales for specialty products; experience in Oncology or Hematology/Oncology

  • Experience leading a team and successfully managing direct reports

  • Exceptional critical thinking to help identify educational gaps, analyze findings and make recommendations while articulating next steps

  • Proven ability to develop and execute TL/KOL mapping and plans

  • Possession of core strategy and analysis skills, as well as the ability to lead and influence others by acting as a strategic partner to business leaders

  • Prior experience and current relationships with Hematology/Oncology Thought Leaders is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to translate strategic vision into tactical action, identify the highest impact ideas and plans and focus efforts by resource allocation

  • Ability to assess risks and benefits to make timely, sound decisions with various levels of information, and accept responsibly for meeting and/ or exceeding objectives

  • Ability to interact with leadership at all levels of the organization.
