Job Responsibilities:

75% Serves as lead worker over a group of custodians performing housekeeping tasks, manual labor, and other activities necessary to maintain the cleanliness, sanitary conditions and other support necessary for the efficient operation of athletic facilities. Provides direction to crew, inspects work, and follows up on job assignments to ensure work meets established standards; Participates in selection, hiring and discipline of employees; Approves leave requests; Provides orientation and on the job and in services training to new employees and student workers; Schedules work time and assigns duties to crew; Issues cleaning supplies as needed. Keeps records relating to supply and equipment usage; Makes recommendations to management for materials and equipment. Responsible for the safe keeping of keys used in the locking and unlocking of the building; Responsible for locking and unlocking of the building; Reports needed repairs to appropriate maintenance staff.

10% Serves as lead worker and supervises the rearrangement, moving and cleaning of furniture and fixtures by custodial crews; Serves as lead worker and supervises custodial crew in setting up and taking down furniture and fixtures used for special events.

5% Directs the work of and participates in duties to wash building exteriors, windows, walls, fixtures, steps and sidewalks using power washer, pressure sprayer, commercial window washing equipment, ladders, scaffolds, etc. Mixes and/or blends cleaning solutions. Inspects equipment to ensure safe and functioning condition, checks and fills fuel tanks and oil reservoirs. May supervise student workers in these activities.

3% Supervises the spraying, fogging or other application of unrestricted pesticides.

2% May drive agency vehicles to transport custodial workers, or supplies and equipment.

5% Performs any other duties necessary to maintain the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of buildings and grounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

1 year of experience in custodial, housekeeping, or food service work.

One year of experience in custodial, housekeeping, or food service work.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Custodian Supervisor 1 by responsibility for direct supervision over a custodian crew composed of 8-15 Custodians performing custodian duties in state buildings having between 160,000-300,000 square feet.

Differs from Custodian Supervisor 3 by lack of responsibility for supervising a custodian crew composed of 18-25 Custodians and subordinate Custodian Supervisors performing custodian duties in state buildings having 320,000-460,000 square feet.

Note: When job assignments do not fall exactly within the above criteria, allocation decisions will be determined on a case by case basis.

Examples of Work

Supervises the work performed by Custodian Supervisors and Custodians in directing floor maintenance operations in large agencies with numerous buildings and custodial employees.

Assists administrators in the preparation of service-related budgets, if required.

Keeps and maintains time, attendance, cost effectiveness building services, and floor maintenance records.

Makes recommendations to supervisors concerning new cleaning solutions, floor maintenance equipment, and related floor maintenance matters.

Conducts in service training classes for Custodians, Custodian Supervisors, and housekeeping personnel in proper methods of custodial and floor maintenance.

Performs related duties necessary for the proper maintenance of floors.
