Job Summary

The Compensation Manager is a “hands-on” compensation professional responsible for the development and implementation of effective compensation programs and policies across the Company, as well as leading and participating in compensation related projects. The compensation team is dedicated to strengthening the company’s total rewards programs to ensure they are market competitive, performance based, and contribute to business success. The responsibilities of this role are to manage a compensation team of 3-4 Analysts and to administer pay practices in a fair and consistent manner. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Design, manage and administer compensation programs which include base pay, salary structures, variable compensation plans, and rewards and recognition programs

  • Initiate complex analysis and recommendations for maintenance and improvement of current compensation infrastructure, including but not limited to: job codes, job families, job descriptions, guidelines for new hires, transfers, promotions, integrity of system of records of practices and procedures

  • Perform job evaluations and analysis of pertinent comparative data for matching and leveling, ensuring aligned grading, market competitive benchmarking analysis, internal equity and governmental compliance.

  • Leads the participation in various salary review studies and analyzes market data to ensure BJ’s maintains a competitive market position

  • Ensures that base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs remain competitive and conform to current compensation strategy

  • Administer and design incentive plans to drive high impact results, aligned to business strategy and objectives

  • Provide compensation consultation to HR Business Partners, business leaders and the Talent Acquisition Team on compensation strategy, design and implementation. Work with assigned function(s) on compensation review and administration to support business objectives

  • Lead compensation programs such as the annual review process. Serve as point person for assigned function(s) and lead broader cross-company workstreams

  • Stay current on industry compensation practices and changing legal issues, assessing and communicating their potential impact on the business

  • Maintain understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including FLSA, Equal Pay Act, etc.

  • Manage, train, and develop Compensation team members

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 6+ years of Compensation experience in compensation strategy, design, and implementation

  • Minimum of 2 years management experience of direct reports or a project team

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

  • Advanced Excel Skills with the ability to apply complex formulas and functions

  • Proven ability to work independently, manage to deadlines and multiple priorities; work under pressure and handle confidential information appropriately

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management

  • Compensation experience within the retail industry highly desirable

  • Workday HRMS experience desirable

  • CCP certification preferred
